Quick after work dig, quick 1864 Indian

I was tired and rundown after work so I went out for 20 minutes of relaxation with the detector. After two nails, that sounded good, this indian was a fairly quiet sound but a good sound. It doesn't look like it saw much circulation.
Thanks for looking, Mike

Your Indian Head find has great detail and is in fantastic shape "congrats" - I bet you forgot about feeling tired and rundown - anyway thanks for sharing your pictures and story. I wish you many more great finds while out dirt fishing.

Is it a longacre? It will have a very small L aiming down on the ribbon between the hair of the Indian and the first feather at the bottom of the headdress. If it is it's more valuable. Awesome 20 minutes!!! Congrats!

Yes it is a Longacre. I am very excited especially with it being in such great shape. I'm sorry for the low quality photo, I will get a better one with my digital camera. The L on the ribbon is very small and maybe a better image will be able to show it. It can be clearly seen with by eye when magnified.
Thanks everyone, Mike

Sweet, I found one last year, but it isn't a Longacre, an 1863 in the same hole 6" away. The 1863 is in bad shape. The 1864 looks great! Yours looks great too!

WOW, that's a beautiful Indian!!! Mine looks almost that good, but is not a Longacre.

Wow that is one sweet coin you got there, and valuable too. Sometimes the short hunts can be the most productive.
Congratz.

That must have been dropped in some non-corrosive soil or someone lost it out of their coin collection recently. That's as perfect as you could ever expect from an excavated bronze coin.

I am very excited about the condition of this coin. The soil here in Up-state NY is fairly neutral. The spot I found this coin is from a yard just outside a historic village. The clothes line it was found by has been in use from the mid 1800s and has yielded many (about 7 or :geek: indian head coins over the past years. Last year two indian head type Civil War tokens related to businesses from two other Up-state towns were found about 3 yards from this hole.
Thanks for looking, Mike

Don't they call these "fatty's" or fat cents? A little thicker than 1865 and on? I have found the 1865, my oldest to date. Nice find!

I'm not sure. I have heard the terminology before but this indian head penny seems to be typical in thickness. Hopefully someone can let us know.
