Quick Coil Question, Please?

LaDigger

Member
My used EX II came with the original factory coil. I can tell by the S/N on the paperwork. Its an Explorer 1000. Is that the 10" coil that some people have trouble with falsing . I haven't noticed any problem, but being totally new to minelab equipment I was curious. I have also seen an exp 1050 coil on some website somewhere, is this the old EXP stk coil. Also , is there somewhere that I can find out how old the eqiupment is by the S/N's. Thanks ....Rich

EX II

The only posts I have seen regarding coil problems related to the SE and even these were few and far between. I am not familiar with the 1050 coil, so I can't help you there. You might try contacting Minelab and asking if they can tell you the manufacture date of your detector. That would not necessarily mean that the machine had been in service that long. Hope this helps some. Don

Maybe I was wrong about seeing a 1050 coil, but I have read about a 10.5" and a 10" . I think mine is a 10" ,right? Thanks ...Rich

matches the sticker on the coil, and I don't have any reason to believe its not the original coil. Can you tell by this pic what coil this is. It works fine and I was told by the seller it was a 10" coil and I have no problem with that .I am just curious to know which it is .. Thanks .Anybody know? ..

That Coil or the Tan (Explorer XS) Coil is the one you want. The Slimline Coil is sleaker looking and only 10". If the Coil works, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I have both the XS Coil and an extra Explorer 2 Coil like the one pictured for a backup. Hope this helps! Good Luck and HH.:super:

I have a brand new in box one just like LaDigger's...just never paid close enough attention. I also have a back up that was still in the packing from a Quattro that has the FBS 1050 label. But I have seen a couple of EX II's on ebay with SE Slimline coils :)...you learn something new or have something new pointed out to you everyday...thanks James!...HH LaDigger...we won't be digging anything but snow here in Northern Ohio for awhile :( I'll be like the guy on the commercial metal detecting for change inside my house for several months!

They are going to get harder and harder to find, especially in New Condition like yours. Here is something better to do than look for Change in your house with your detector over the next couple months. Go to the Bank and buy up some Rolls and pull the old Coins from those! I've been doing this for about 2 1/2 Months ($20 worth every weekend) now and have found a lot of Wheat Pennies and also 1 Indian Head dated 1907. I found 60 Wheat Pennies in $20 worth the Penny Rolls alone one time! I must be getting up to 250 Wheats so far so this little treasure hunt will help you out when you need to find some Old Coins to add to your collection. Haven't bought anything for other Rolls but there is Silver still out there waiting to be had. Good to have helped both of you guys out. Good Luck and HH.

Tell me please someone - are the FBS1000 and the FBS1050 identical coils?? They ofcourse look quite identical, but do we know for sure? Thanks!
