Quick hunt while out of town

Went out for a while after work and found the unusual belt buckle. Then I spent the rest of my time digging this pile of coins out of a 2 foot diameter area about 6 to 8" deep. 30 Lincoln Memorial cents, 5 wheat cents, 7 nickels, 2 dimes, and 1 quarter. Wheat cents were 1941 to 1958 and seemed to be the deepest. I was hoping to get some silver out of there, but not yet. I'm still getting weak signals all around the area, so there's probably more.

Thats quite a bit of coins in such a small area......I like the buckle! Good short hunt.....

There could still be more coins their. Try A/M to see if that will get you any deeper. You just might get lucky...KEN

I love that belt buckle! Can you tell what the base metal is? It looks like brass in the picture, but, hard to tell from just a photo. And the green stone, is it faceted? All in all, I would say you had a great hunt! Congrats!!

The base metal for the buckle is brass Roland. I think the stone is actually glass. There's no opening behind it. And Ken, it's an area with nice thick turf and lots of pull tabs just below the surface. I tried digging a 1 foot plug and then tapered the hole outward below ground to get to the coins. I don't know if I should put to much more effort into digging a few more post-war coins at the risk of destroying the turf.

You are right. Don't mess it up for your self. Keep it neat and clean... KEN

Went back to the same site and about 20 feet away from the first pile of coins I found this pile. This time it's 55 Lincoln Memorial cents, 4 Wheat cents, 2 nickels, and 2 dimes. Still no silver. The wheats were 1941, 1944, 1953, and 1958.

That's weird......you are in the right time frame, for sure! Just have to get that coil over the silver ones!!
