Quick question for US sellers

Hi there

Snoopy36 here from Australia. First let me say that this forum is awesome and thank you to everyone's contributions.

I just have one quick question. There are lots of terrific stuff being sold and traded here but many sellers choose not to ship outside of the USA. I fully respect your right to do so but could you please give me an idea of reasons why you would not ship to Australia for example, when the buyer would cover the additional cost?

I understand it with dealers not being able to ship to Australia due to their contractual obligations with some companies but I thought an individual private seller would not be bound by these obligations.

'Just wondering....

Cheers

Hey Snoopy I have sold some things that went to your country and it just involves some extra paper work. Some may not want to deal with it and if it doesn't get there I'm sure that would be a real pain getting that straight. Mate I just loved your country and people when I had an R&R from Viet Nam in 1968-69. So many wanted to be our 51 st state back then and boy how lucky you aren't now...I have great respect for your leader and your country. The guys that I met in Viet Nam also have my GREATEST RESPECT and thanks for your help...LiL John

I don't mind shipping small, low valued items oversees, but to me the risk involved in accepting online payments for high dollars items (such as detectors) is not worth it. Especially when selling personal items when you're not usually selling for a profit.
I have a side business selling auto parts and often ship items oversees, but I've also had dozens of items either lost or held up in customs for so long that I was forced to refund the buyers payments. I've also encountered a much higher rate of fraud when dealing with oversees customers, and there is little or no chance of getting your item or money back if something goes wrong with an oversees transaction. It's been my experience that online payment services such as Paypal will almost always side with the buyer (Even fraudulent buyers). A seller can be out their item, the high cost of shipping and be left with little to no recourse.

Kellyco does! I think Minelab is the only one we can't ship to Australia (manufacturer policy as they have another dealer that does I think)
