"Quick Refresh" Modifications to Quattro Electronics???

Hi Everyone. I would like to get your input on this one:
A guy on Ebay sells a Quattro claiming to have been modified for better performance by Minelab.

I cut and pasted a paragraph from his description and an answer to a Ebayer question regarding this "Quick Refresh modification:

*****************************************************************************************************************
"Wanted to try something new and bought this Minelab new from distributor in mid Jan 05.

Before ever using, I sent it to Minelab USA for special "Quick Refresh" enhancement a Minelab buddy told me about. Same Guy who told me about this excellence machine and how if I wanted a top of the line, easy to use machine, this is the one to get and the enhancement greatly improves over all performance, especially when combined with high end Coiltex's WOT coils."

Question:

Q: HELLO, WHAT DOES THIS ENHANCEMENT DO? MAKE IT GO DEEPER, MORE STABLE, BETTER TARGETID...ETC. THANKS A LOT. RANDY

A: From what I was showed, meaning I saw it with my own eyes. If 2 targets are next to each other, 2 inches or so, say a nail and a dime. If you swing over the nail first and then the dime. Minelab will pick up the nail and might miss the dime while target ID is analyzing for solid picture icon ID. Quicker refresh allows both targets to be seen or I should say heard by user even while target identification is still occuring by master software in the detector. Allows you to pick up a good signal (coin) right next to a bad signal (nail). This enhancement is important when in a area with lots of trash and/or if you are running a larger coil. I had a friend who knew Minelabs inside and out and he was the one who told me this was the way to go. Even showed me before and after affects of this enhancement on my machine and I was impressed. He moved back east and I haven't used it since.

If this is true, then the Quattro would definitely be a "killer" in the field.

What do you think about this one group?

The Quattro has a slow "recovery" speed, meaning that it is slow to make the shift between two close-together targets. This could also be referred to as "refresh" speed and I am certain that this is what this guy is talking about. I have HEARD (though I don't know it to be true) that at least one other person had had Minelab "fix" this on a Quattro. Personally, I never considered it to be "broken". Yes, it has a slow recovery speed. And that means you have to learn to slow down your search speed. But it also is what allows the Quattro to lock on so well to the deeper stuff that other machines miss. I never found the slow recovery speed to be much a a big deal. Others have complained about it. Most adjust to it. I think that I would call Minelab on this and verify it. There have been enough Quattro sold and enough folks who have been very successful with it as it comes from the factory that I would be skeptical of such a story. At any rate, the Quattro is a very capable machine regardless.

I considered the slow recovery speed to be when it sees a good target, then a trash target the trash will sound like the good target did, until the threshold resets. Now I found that if it seen the trash target first then the good one the recovery was faster and would give the good tone on the good target, not the trash target. To me it seems like a higher conductivity target will speed up the recovery while a lower conductivity target will hold the tone of the higher one until the threshold resets. Where this is good is like you say Mike it will lock on to a good target better so the operator can hear it easier. This is the way it was designed i was told.

I never had a chance to try one that had this modification done to it, but when I had mentioned this to Minelab I was advised not too. I feel the reason is if it resets faster it will not lock on like it does for the deep targets.
Another reason if this is suppose to work so much better then why is it not been done at the factory on those that are being made now. I feel it is designed this way so it will lock on to the deeper targets.

Agreed. My point was more "Is this even for real?" I guess from the sound of it, it must be. If Minelab advised against it. I'm just skeptical of things people say on eBay, though it certainly could be true.
