RACER 2 and FORS CoRe

I sold my Red Racer and kept my FORS CoRe with four coils, was hoping for the Impact to come out but instead Racer 2 comes along. My question is will I gain anything by also having the Racer 2?

not on depth but it does have notch.

Performance wise I don't think you will see any difference. The only thing is the Racer 2 will offer a few more features such as, iron audio volume, notch, and tone breaks to name a few. I still have my original Fors CoRe and really like it. Its my main use machine.

The CORE is a great machine as I'm sure you are well aware. If it had adjustable iron audio I would have never sold mine. That is a key feature for the sites I detect and how I like to detect them. i.e. very little disc. and in heavy iron. So yes, the R2 (hopefully) will perform better for me than the CORE interpretation wise (meaning hearing the good signals in the iron). The deep mode may give you some extra depth as well, but that remains to be seen. Obviously you are giving up some separation in that mode, but a welcomed feature none the less. Since you have already owned a Racer you have the upper hand in knowing how the ergonomics fit you and if you prefer the user interface on the side or the front screen.

How have you been liking the Fors up here. I need a new machine with some depth...not a fan of my G2...sucks in depth. Whats been your thoughts so far. trying to decide between the Racer 2 or Fors Core

I took the fors core out for the first time today ,deepest coin was 8-9 inches and was nice and clear audio and vdi, loving it so far,fyi my soil gb at 68...i prefer the cors over the red racer, mostly based on ergonomics!!

"I'd say the VDI on the R2 is more dependable and LARGER?
From my POV the FORS Core is more [ a wide open space searcher ] while the R2 IMHO is more of a [ tight spot / park ] machine.
Easier to "wield" in woods as well where I struggled with a "Velox One" two years back!!!"

The impact should be a different machine maybe the best thing to come out in a long time. The racer and racer 2 are about the same for performance the 2 just has more options that a lot of us wanted on the racer 1...for me now that I have the racer 1 I'm sticking with it I love it and use it more than the deus. The impact may replace my dues or I'll keep all three and that is more than I ever have had at one time. But for a all around machine that is deep and has some kick ass coils the racer is going to be my go to machine. It just works for me and my dirt and all of the coils are very deep sometimes I can't even dig a hole because my blade on my shovel is getting to deep. It will be interesting to see the new software for the deus and what it can do and then what other companies are going to do right now they are way behind. The impact if done right and it tops the deus by allowing us to select one freq and also select more than one freq would be a show stopper and would leave the others behind if it works. This company is run the right way and you don't see that anymore except with the deus. Give us wireless headphones that work and updates via the internet and you will sell a ton of impacts. And if it really changes things and is better at unmasking and is deeper with ID that company is going to move to the top...Can't wait to see what they are going to do with the impact....but for now I'll keep hunting with the racer..

I think the racer for me is a great relic machine deep fast and the 5x10 coil is about all I use... Great on buttons and they are a lot like coins.

When I switched from the Racer to the Fors CoRe, I wondered if I would miss the display in front of my face...... I didn't. In the trashy iron infested sites I hunt ( 3 tone) I listen for the high or mid tone. The CoRe does display the VDI number in the grip....and sometimes glance at that to get an idea what might be in the ground. The CoRe retains memory, so once settings are set, I just basically turn on machine, GB and start hunting. If I want to make changes to the settings I just hold up my right arm and make the changes.

I can see what Des is saying, with the Racers "S" grip you kinda hold the machine with your arm extended more and can hunt with the coil right in front of your feet and with a post grip (Fors Core or MXT's for example) your elbow is more at the side of your body. But even then, I haven't had much problem hunting bushy areas with the CoRe.

I did put my pre-order in for a Racer 2. Like Triplehooked stated, the Iron Audio Volume adjustment will make hunting iron infested sites a joy. Very low disc setting and the ability to lower the volume on the low tone ( iron grunts). I did get to play a bit with the Racer 2 that Monte received. The grip angle is a vast improvement over the original Racer ( Thanks Makro) however where you grip it is not as thick as the original and some might find it too skinny. Not a big deal. My M6 and especially the Classics had a skinny grip. I found on ebay a wrap that had Velcro to hold it on. I just wrapped the grip and it was fine. I would rather it be too skinny as opposed to too thick. I can fix the skinny one to my liking.

Yes - the Racer 2 handle IS [ too skinny]!!!!!

I had double taped the prototype and it felt "normal"
The Production unit came and Yes, it dawned on me...it's almost too thin!
So I'll do the same again and use painters masking tape and double wrap that with electrical tape.

NB: Note to self: go to sports store and look at 'tennis racquet' grips

Loving the Racer and torn about R2 vs Impact (some temptation to the Racer Gold). Why did the market go soft before I was ready to traded up?
