New member
:ausflag: Hi thinking about getting a racer 2 ,just wondering if any one has used them on materialised ground and iron stone ground regards john:ausflag:

I've :detecting: with Red Racer, Gold Racer and FORS Gold on :ausflag: ground, more details and pictures have been posted on local Oz forums.

That doesn't help us.----Post them here on Findmall on the Metal Detecting Forum. (comparison tests are allowed on that forum)

"iron bark" perhaps it's the :ausflag:-speak that this :usaflag:-speak guy doesn't understand, but I've been detecting for over fifty-one years and have never had ground just 'materialize' out of thin air, or dense air for that matter. Could it be that you mean 'mineralized' ground rather than 'materialized?'

I do not have all the same ground conditions you deal with, however where I live and hunt the most is in the Western USA, and I deal with very mineralized ground and quite often a lot of irony hot rocks. Most of the old ghost towns and places I have worked this past decade or two have been gold mining towns, gold mining camps, or other places that have bad-ground challenges to deal with. If you note below my primary-use detectors, as well as my specialty-use back-up models, you will see that it includes the very reliable performers from Nokta (the Gold [sup]Plus[/sup], CoRe and some Relic units) and my Makro favorites (both Racer 2's and Gold Racer's).

They would not be in my favorite detector arsenal if they couldn't handle some tough, day-to-day mineralization challenges. I encourage you to either buy a Racer 2 and needed coils, or at least visit a dealer who stocks the Racer 2 or meet up with an avid Racer 2 user to check them out.

Yes my R2 did get mineralised ground, it was stable, didn't false etc etc but it just didn't go deep

I couldn't get past 9" in my soil on a large copper coin which reads mainly 3 out of 5 bars on the Racer2 with stock coil, Keith Southern maxed out a dime at 9" as well.
Have a look at 'scannerguy' on youtube, he done a good indepth test in 2 or 3 bar soil and couldn't get past the 9'' mark either.
IMHO in my soil it was a 7 to 8 inch deep detector, in good soil it will perform a lot better.
