Just bought me a Tiger shark and want to get into shallow water and beach hunting at the local lakes, what type of digging equipment do I need. Photos and suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks Rob.
P.S.-I would rather not spend a fortune on gear if you knw what I mean. Thanks

you will quickly find out that good tools will enhance your water detecting efforts considerably. just a couple and possibly only 1 recovery will more than pay for the cost of good gear!

here are a couple of pictures of the gear that i use for water recovery.

i prefer a large stainless scoop, i like getting the target on the first try when ever possible. i also use a sifter, it eliminates time spent looking for targets in the bottom of my scoop and therefore lets me spend more time looking for targets in the bottom! it also floats my scoop when not in use, which extends my hunting day because of less fatigue. it also greatly aids in the recovery of small targets that really like to slip thru the bottom of scoops.

i'm sure you will see several replies here, but i'd bet the general theme will be the same, buy the best you can afford! in the long run, its the cheapest route!

good luck, i know you will find some cool stuff!

best thing to do is invest in a Nuttall scoop-its the absolute best shape scoop on the market bar none-it will last you a lifetime

Ya need a good scoop.
Here is some photos showing my old rusted scoop and its new replacement.
I wanted all stainless steel and a wood handle on the new one.
These are getting very hard to find.
These also work very well on the dry sand beach as the wire basket allows the sand to flow out quickly.
In the surf I would use something a bit heavier duty.

The shape of the scoop is critical. If you are doing a bottom with lots of rocks I'd suggest the Diamondhead by Nuttall. If you are going to be in sand most of the time, both of those above are fine. That SS pointed front end of the Nuttall really helps penetrate through the rocks and gravel but its weight is greater than those that work well in the sand.. Jim

I like the idea of a floating tube,,, I think i might start doing that so i can carry a couple different tools for specific ground

The SharkPit...............Couple good Ideas...A watch & scratch pad on your sifter .................Obn
