Ran the Safari in all metal today

bugg

New member
Went to the clad park, set the sensitivity in auto, lo trash, put on the 11' pro coil, and started swingin. I was able to swing very fast, as the processor spits out signals fast, with no disc circuit to send them thru.
I listened for the tones above iron, as the audio has variable tones in this mode. The number ID also works in this mode which is great. When a higher tone would sound off, Id check the numbers, alot of times the numbers would jump around , but if a desireable number came up somewhat regularily, I would dig. In the all metal mode, often times a goood number would come up, for example , a 36, then it would jump down to minus one. I would swith modes, pushing the coins program, and the numbers became more stable. The Negative 1 would disappear, and the 36 would lock.. Alot of my finds today were next to trash targets, including a clad quarter at 5", one inch below a large nail. Swinging one direction would show 37, and decent audio, and swinging the other direction was a crappy signal. The only time the all metal mode became tiring was when it would detect 10 iron objects on one swing. It sure was wet and sloppy, we had 4" of rain the last 24 hrs, and once a plug was cut the hole would fill with water. In 2 hours I added 20 clads to my collection. I would rather be digging silver, but I want to get to know this machine before we go after the deep stuff. You aughta try hunting in the all metal mode. Target response is fast, and clear. Happy hunting.

Running the Safari in all metal is the only way to go on it.I run mine in all metal
all the time.It takes awhile to get used to all the different sounds it makes in all
metal but once you do you won't run it any other way.I have a Quattro that I use
also and all metal is the best way to operate it too. Gary

Interesting, I'll have to give it a whirl. Hope I can get used to it in all metal. I'm sure it tends to do a lot of singing in this mode. Ron

bugg- spg1955, good info, there. I've been experimenting on the beach in all metal, auto sensitivity, high trash (will try low trash next) but found the array of sounds somewhat confusing. Will stick with it however, want to master this safari. Our beaches here in central Jersey get pounded, so I'll keep swinging slow. Quick hunt after the rain yesterday recovered a silver ring, bounced between 38-39 (925 -thailand ), '37 wheatie, pocketful of clad and two 5 point arcade coins. Used that homemade sand scoop I viewed on youtube and was pleased with the results. Thanks to ozbad07 !

I wish that we would get some rain
here in central Indiana because it is so dry here the
grass crunches when you walk on it and it really makes it hard to get deep with the
detector.I got the old Quattro out last week and put the 8 inch minelab coil on it and
found a 1935 Buffalo nickel and some early wheaties.I run all metal on the Safari and
the Quattro and if you slow down and listen real good you will be suprised at the stuff
you will find.I used the Quattro in some real trashy spots last week and even it amazed
me at all the change that I was able to pick up. Gary

All-metal was all we had around 1980.Discriminators were in their infancy.Even though my White's had a discriminator,I never ran it because the disc was not capable beyond about 2" depth. And that was on a good day.

The vast majority of what I consider my best (Seated,Barber,Mercury, other silver) finds then were in the 3-5 inch range.I got pretty good at discriminating by the sound made as the detector was passed over the target.

The discriminator on the Safari is good.In discriminate, what turns out to be a dime detected at 10-12 inches is good, real good,in my opinion.I've heard that depth capability of Safari on a dime at 10-12 inches is very much possible.I've done an air test of the Safari discriminator on a silver dime placed on the ground and found that it will "not see" the dime at more than about 12 inches.

All-metal might get below 12" on the dime but I don't think its worth digging vast amounts of trash and then operator getting totally confused/frustrated in a trashy area (where your best chances might be to make some good finds these days).

My involvement in the hobby of metal detecting needs to be leisurely, like a walk in the park should be.And that very good Safari discriminator is quite helpful to that end.

Recently,I hunted an area in the local park that I had been over with my Bounty Hunter several times.I found a very nice (XF) Mercury dime at about 6."
6" on a dime is out of the range of my Bounty Hunter's discriminator.Safari located it with ease.

I might just try that all-metal mode in the open areas of Denver's City Park one day to find what I missed way back when.:surprised:
