Rather brisk morning hunt with the Omega.

Put the Under Armour on and headed to the woodlands site with the temp being a balmy 24 with a wind chill factor of 15. Not to fear! The Omega was smoking! No silver and the closest thing to gold was a 18k g p ring that rang up in the 60's, but did dig some targets. Also along the jewelry line got what appears to be the outer ring of a big pocket watch. But that is just a guess. One outer edge has some ornate design. Did hit a 1903 IH and 2 toasted no date buffalo nickels and 3 wheats, 37, 45 and 47d, as far as older coins go. Also dug a big 3 ring mini which came in in the zinc range, couple pieces of lead and some shot gun shell brass and some clad, no value tokens and Memorial cents and zincers. I am not sure the last time, if ever, that I've dug 28 keeper targets on this site. 10 or so seems to be more the norm. I had on the 10" concentric coil, running with sen of 99, disc 1, d4 tones and a g b of 58-61. Stay warm, everyone. HH jim tn

How did that new gear you PM'd me about work ??

I pm's you on the Under Armour. The Omega ran fine. Maybe even likes cold temps. LOL HH jim tn

Man Jim I'm jealous!!!!!...I got my new Omega but the ground here in WV is frozen solid, with 4" of snow....All I can do is cradle my Omega it in my arms and stare out the window with tears in my eyes...I like to dirtfish, but "ice dirtfishing" is too tough......You got some nice finds...Were you hunting with the concentric?

Keith, yes, 10" concentric. I have all three coils, but particularly like the 10" for woods hunting. Its size and shape allows me to get in, around and under brush easier then with the 11." We lived in Fairmont another life time ago, but I still recall the wonderful small mouth bass fishing float trips several of us guys used to take on the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac. Hope you thaw out over there. HH jim tn

Jim, you hit it on the money with the Smallmouth fishing.....I fish the Cacapon for them and I believe the North Fork forms the Forks of the Cacapon......I also metal detect on the Braddock Rd off Bloomery Run....In terms of Fairmont, I live in Buckhannon about 45 miles South on Route 33 East.....That's good information on the 10" concentric, and I do a lot of woods hunting around the Stonewall Jackson Lake area...I do hope we thaw out soon. Overall, we have had a mild winter than what we have had over the last 2 years so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...Good luck with your hunting.

Great finds Jim! That Omega and it's operator are making some nice finds! I know you enjoyed the hunt especially after the temp. moderated some. HH to you!

I need to get an Omega..im hearing nothing but good things ..I have 2 tesoro's but im looking for a used 8000 for this spring..this WI weather right now is nice but still 2 cold.

good hunt jim!..has the omega found more
good stuff for ya? as opposed to the l.t.d?
just curious!

Over all, no! But, I do swing the LTD the most when hunting a site like woods and or where all the depth I can achieve is necessary. They both have their place for me and for pure coin shooting, the Omega is usually what I use. The B P mode of the LTD really excels for hunting over brushy stuff when you can't always have the coil on or just above the ground. Which is seldom when woods hunting. HH jim tn

gotcha jim! the l.t.d certainly has it's advantages, but it appears
for regular places like parks,schools,etc..etc.. the omega is the
hot setup.
