Made a second trip to my favorite churchyard this past week. Found: 1916 Barber Quarter, 1918 Buffalo Nickel, 1902 Barber Half, 1919 Merc Dine, Indian Heads - 1895, 1884, 1903 and 1900. The medallion is imprinted "Excelsior Shoes for Boys, Excelsior Shoe Co., Portsmouth, O., July 1910. Silver class ring, and other goodies including a .45 cal. musket ball. Third visit is pending. Temps in the 90's as well as high humidity. Typical PA summer conditions. This old geezer has a problem with that stuff. Excuse the less than perfect photography.

hahah found one of those excelsior tags at the garrett smith land survey office when i was a kid detecting with my dad. they came with boy scouts shoes

What a sweet haul!!! That site seems loaded. Wish I could find one like it. Happy Hunting!!!

Looks like you have good spot there.Must have been a lot of rich people going to that church! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> The church site I go to hasn't had any quarters or halves. The best I've found is dimes. Please keep us posted and continued good hunting.

That is just super. What is that large coin or token with the man on a horse all about?

G,day Ronnie,
I have the same detector as you, which i bought late last year for a bargain of a price from a good mate who supplied 3 coils with it 5"x10",4.5" super sniper,12.5" & also the detector has had a upgrade to it making it a GTAX100.
Ronnie what coil are you using around the church yard?
& what are your settings set to?
Cheers Freddy

Freddy,
Am using the 8.5 coil that it came with. I bought it on closeout from Kellyco in 2001. At near half price I believe it was. Would like to get the 4.5 for it but was told I'd need to get the coil plug changed to use it with my GTAx 1000. Still thinking about that. In the churchyard I set the discrimination at 2.5 just to cancel out the iron stuff, nuts, bolts, etc. Not much "new junk" at this site...pull tabs, squashed soda cans and such. Switch to factory set coins mode for a final check out. Most stuff comes up at about 6" or so. Going out this coming week for round three, if it ever stops pouring rain! Will post photos with whatever comes out after that one.
