Ok... Went to the beach early yesterday for low tide, and managed a deep Washington Silver Quarter @ about 10" down in the mud. Then, a few feet away I got the small gold frame with the onyx inners. I met up with my buddy Georg and we worked a pinic area, but only got clad there. On Wednesday, today, since it didn't rain, I went off to an old favorite spot that I had detected only once before in 2000. I only managed a Rosie for a full day of detecting, so I thought, hey.... I'm a better hunter now, and I decided to give a try with my Explorer II. The morning started off very slow with only clad coming up, and some were deep which I'm not surprised as I have had clad come up as deep as 12"s. I decided to go by these slopes at run about 150 yards, and sure enough, the first Merc... 1944 show up to greet me, and I was very happy to meet her. I continue working and then the other two Mercs came to light with a nickel, and low and behold, a quarter that had the nickel shadow, and I said there's friends, and yes, I saw the rim of the walking half, and my eyes lite up, and yes another quarter with the other shadow, not two feet away another quarter.... looking good... I also dug the car, a match box made in 1982, along with an old light that came in like a coin.

WOW! To find that many silver coins in one area is really great because they were much easier to find in the earlier years before so many detectorists were out there detecting also! Congrats on such a good day finding all those coins! Congrats! :clapping: God Bless! Betty

Ok... Went to the beach early yesterday for low tide, and managed a deep Washington Silver Quarter @ about 10" down in the mud. Then, a few feet away I got the small gold frame with the onyx inners they are at the left side of the group pic. I met up with my buddy George and we worked a pinic area, but only got clad there.

Today, since it didn't rain, I went off to an old favorite spot that I had detected only once before in 2000, and we used to come there for the feast of St. John in the fifties where thousands of people used to picnic where I got these goodies, and I have only scratched the surface. I only managed a Rosie for a full day of detecting the first time there, so I thought, hey.... I'm a better hunter now, and I decided to give it a try with my Explorer II. The morning started off very slow with only clad coming up, and some were deep which I'm not surprised as I have had clad come up as deep as 12"s. I decided to go by these slopes that run about 150 yards, and sure enough, the first Merc by a small tree emerged... a 1944 shows up to greet me, and I was very happy to meet her as she was only 2" deep. As I was hunting... a worker that was using one of those weed wackers comes up to me and says you can't be digging holes. I smiled and he immediately held off his assult. I said, yes I understand your concern, but look around you and you can see that all my holes have been filled and the state of the area is like I never had dug a hole. He was still a bit concern and I showed him my permit, and things began to change little by little, and he started to ask if I found anything... I said I had found a couple of silver coins, and he said I had to ask as my boss is not going to be happy while your digging holes... I said, remember this is good for the lawn as the ground will receive more oxygen and tell me if you can tell where I have been digging here, he said... hey man, your cool, it's just that I have not seen anyone meatal detecting around here... I know, I said... very trashy place, it's scares them away.

I continued on my way... It wasn't long before the boss showed up with another young lady... walking straight to me and her face was not a happy one... What are you doing... I turned off my machine and said, I'm metal detecting... You can't dig here. I said please, look at my permit, this park is on my permit, and I'm permited to dig in rough grass areas as well as pinic areas, but if you want me to stop and leave, I will. Before she can say another word which she had already said, you can't dig holes here. I showed her my permit, and she smiles and says, I'm sorry... Just make sure you cover the holes...

I said look at the areas that I have been digging, you can hardly tell I've dug there, and she says... while the young lady smiles and says, you know, there used to hold a lot of concerts here. The administrator says Yes, well, I see... your very good, found anythiing nice... Showed her the walking liberty and the car, she asks if the walker is worth anything, I said, I would have to check the book value of the coin... She then says, good for you...as she pats me on the back...hey, you can hunt here anytime, and by the way I loss my diamond ear ring the other day, and the young lady said NO... She, really I did... You can rest assure, that I'll be asking where and devote some time in trying to find it as a good gesture for her. It pays to be nice and bring out the facts immediately and always say that you are willing to stop if they want you to... Well, HH to all...

Nice looking coins, Philo. Love that Walking Liberty. It pays to stand your ground and be nice at the same time.
