Re: my gold nuggets

Hi All,
I have tried to upload my pic of the nuggets I found with my pseudo Goldquest. Hopefully, it will work fine.
Anyways, all three nuggets are both quartz and gold. This is obvious on the larger nugget but very difficult to see on the smaller ones. One really needs a magnifying glass to see the smaller nuggets are a thin gold wrapped around a piece of quartz.
The smaller nugget weighed in on a powder scale at just over 1 grain, the next about 3.5 grains, and the larger nugget weighed in at about 3/8 of an oz about 11.4 grams on an electronic scale.
I still need to clean the larger nugget so it looks quite drab at the moment.

Looks good! sorry to hear about your accident, check your e-mail. Don

Looks like the Goldquest is going to be a success. We all knew that with you, Eric and Bill being envolved with this new PI Gold Detector it would be a winner.
Congratulations to all of you and any others I didn't mention..........................joebody
PS Should be a good item to add to my arsenal haha

Congratulations. Those nuggets are the beginning of the payback for all the terrific work that you have put into modifying the Goldquest. Did you use the Dual D coil that you made? What's all this about your having an accident? All the best, Dave. * * *

Hi Dave and All,
First, thanks for the compliments on the gold. I know from experience that these nuggets are not the biggest or prettiest, but they are gold.
There is something that happens when a person finds a gold nugget that is impossible to express in words. It doesn't matter whether the gold is large or small, pretty or ugly, or even if it is a bright gold color or a more drab shade caused by the oxidation of the alloys, the feeling is the same. That feeling is GREAT!!! I just wish everybody could experience it. Once a person feels the rush, they will better understand what drove the old prospectors in their search.
Now, yes Dave, I used the DD coil. I made some obvious errors in the building of my coils. In an attempt to keep the coils light as well as lack of time, I failed to completely embed the windings in epoxy so they could not move. This was a fatal flaw.
Overall, the DD coils worked excellent, especially in reducing the ground response. Most of the time, the detector was so smooth and quiet, it was scary. In areas where the ground and rocks have given me fits when using a VLF, the PI was exceedingly quiet, making it easy to hear the slightest whisper of a sound from small or deep targets.
However, when the coil bumped into a rock, there was a good prossiblity I would get a false response. That became irritating, especially when hunting in very rocky areas. Anyways, it is something to keep in mind for those who might be planning to build a DD coil.
In the rocky areas, the mono coil should have been almost as quiet, but since I was trying to determine what needed to be done with DD coils, I stayed with using them on this trip.
Finally, yes Dave, I had a minor accident. My foot tried to duke it out with a couple of large rocks. I can't say what the rocks look like today, but the foot is multi-colored and a whole new size and shape, at least temporarily. All I can say is, it could have been a lot worse, so I am thankful for that. Oh yeah, fat boys like me don't bounce when they hit the ground. At least, I didn't.
