I never worried about the hot rocks, but I never hunted in a solid mass of them either. Passed over many of them in the dirt without knowing about them until I got a QXT. Just always figured they were iron.
The nulls were short, and didn't indicate any need to lower the sensitivity.
If I ever get a serious craving to hunt in the creek, I think I will get a coil and stick for my Uniprobe. It ignores the hot rocks. Also, it's a PI unit.
You can hunt in auto or manual with a very slow sweep but it will depend on just how severe conditions are. You will have to see if it's practical.
