Really deep Pipe holes at my favorite beepzone-Bomb shelter or well?

The thing is there are 2 of them I'm fairly certain. I found one over 4 years ago & looking for it today found its twin. Spaced about 4 feet apart & both capped with a flat plate of sheet metal.

The pipe I looked down today was iron and very long with no visible joint as far as I can see. It has a long metal rod with a broken rope or wire attached in it. The rod is about 15 feet down & may have been a grounding rod as it looks like copper

The pipes are about 5" in diameter & the echo is tremendous. Spookie looking down frankly. I had a mega flashlight with me & I could not get a hint of bottom.

So I dropped a small rock...4 seconds to bottom???

That's a hundred feet or better. I will get my daughters help for a video & time the stone drop with a stopwatch. But it was one potato two potato three & whomp...

If this is a well why 2 pipes. And if this is a shelter-with intake & exhaust pipes-why so deep?

This site has given me years of finds & many from this area are WW1-2 uniform bits & buttons. Even a set of collar wings from WW2. But I know it was an old private estate with many public picnics on the grounds. Other than that there is no local record of the location.

I'll get the video in a few days so sorry that's not coming sooner.
Cheers!

If your 4 second assessment is accurate, it could be as much as 256 feet! (not allowing for air friction, so probably less) :nerd: Maybe its ventilation for a mine?
