Recovery time question?

Bill M

New member
I am seriously considering the SE for my next metal detector purchase (using a XT70 at present), but have read about the Safari's slow recovery response. Does the SE use the same circuitry as the Safari? And how does this issue compare to the Etrac? Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks in advance for any help.

Slow recovery isnt a bad word. I used to use Whites mostly they recover very quickly... but i dont now. You just have to barely move or push the Explorers along if you need to. Some machines need to swing quickly in order for the filtering system to work properly. As heavy as the Explorer is youd kill yourself swinging it like those machines. I had a bad elbow with those machines.... but no problems with the Explorer. They recover faster than you think or you would hear so much under the coil that people say drive them nuts. I once read a post by Jeff Foster where he said put a penny and a dime a foot apart and swing until you can hear both the coins. A FOOT apart.... thats a long ways think of how many targets there could be in a foot. I dont know about the Safari .... i know the quarto recovers slower than the SE as does the XS and II, but believe me those two machines are unbelieveable at finding deep targets. Make sure you get the pro or SEF coil otherwise you just wont know the true worth of these machine.

One more thing on Recovery. Having your disc set too high will obviously make the machine null more often. The Explorers really grabs onto targets.... much like a magnet you can hear when it recovers or releases. For me moving the disc to say 28 allows me to hear about every thing under the coil except the dirt... and even then hot rocks sound thru if i have the sensitivity too high. About the only time you null is when there is tons of iron or large deep pieces.

I believe the SE has the generation lll processor and the Safari has the generation ll processor. The generation lll processor is somewhat faster and may have some effect on the recovery time. But I'm not sure about that. Someone else may be more knowledgeable than Me.

I have owned both and I think the Safari and SE have the same recovery speed. Neither are all that slow.

use all metal with little discrimination -14 or less and you will not have any problem with recovery speed.

If I were you I think i would call Mine lab and find out that info.... But it seems to me the E-trac has the fastest processor..... Don't take my word for it... I use to be a whites user and still am . So when I bought my SE I was thinking faster processor... Its OK but after getting the SE I read somewhere that the E-track was faster.... One thing I have learned with the Mine lab... Slow is the way to go..... You'll soon see what you have been missing by going Slooooooooowwwwwwww.... In junk I call it turtle huntin for silver.
