refurbished DFX, good deal?

I can buy a refurbished DFX with factory warranty for $799. It sounds like a pretty good deal based on the limited research I've done. A friend of mine tells me that I should get a Garrett GTI 2500 instead. Any thoughts?

Go with the dfx, alot better machine for the money i think! My dfx is refurbished and i wouldn't trade it for anything. And it is a deepseeker to boot.jmoho!!!!!hh kd

I would have gone with another DFX (for my son) if I didn't get a GREAT deal on a Garrett GTI 2500 here in the Classifieds! Used for $400. shipped with the extra 12.5" coil & bag :twodetecting:

I have both. I'd go with the 2500. The DFX is very, very, very hard to figure out unless you have a degree in physics. You can use other people's programs, but tweaking requires a lot of understanding. The 2500 will show you the correct size of and the true depth of the object you're hunting before you start digging. This is useful in coin hunting. ON the other hand, an MXT is a better, though cheaper, machine IMHO. Also, the 2500 is heavy. For coin hunting, the 1500 would be the better choice, though it doesn't go as deep as the 2500. Neither the 2500 or 1500 go as deep as the MXT or DFX. HH
