I found this rock about 35yr ago in Arizona.its about 1x1" looks like silver, sparkles in sun light.a PI detector will only detect it at coil.a super magnet wil not respond to it.it conductive.
Frank.

Hi Frank,
I am not a geologist by any means, so I am not sure I can help you, especially without a pic of the rock. I am sure there are more qualified people watching this forum than me when it comes to determining a specific rock. I have just learned enough to be dangerous about the rocks that affect a PI.
You mentioned that a PI will not detect it unless it is right at the coil. This reduces the possibilities the rock is metallic in nature.
Are you holding the rock with your hand when you test it? Your CS, if you are still using it, might be detecting your hand and not the rock. I found the CS coil to be sensitive to hand capacitance and that is why I mentioned it.
I am assuming the rock isn't extremely heavy for its size either since it wasn't mentioned. Weight will help determine something about it.
Hopefully, someone else will jump in on this one. Sorry I can't help you more.
Reg

could be a large piece of mica, is it flakey? or a mica impregnanted host rock.

Only guessing but if it is heavy and looks like silver then it might be galena which usually responds as positive on one end of the GB scale on a VLF and softly negative on the other end and responds poorly to a PI.

RObby_ H,
You were right the metal rock is Galena,Wisconsin
State mineral.
Frank.
