Relic hunting finds...

Aaron

Well-known member
I found all of these relics in the woods at a area where Union troops trained in the mid 1800's, though I'm not sure if thats what their from.
The shotgun and bullet casings were 6-10" deep. The bullet and musket balls(?) were 6". The little pieces of lead were all in the same hole.
Any information and input is appreciated.
Thanks, Aaron

Neat finds!! I dig alot of shells and bullets, most from the 50's and 60'. Those look like there from that era maybe older?. one looks like a 12 ga? the other 35cal.? All 3 casings are center fire.Keep digging it only gets better!!!!.....hh rick in mi.

I would say all the top pictures are modern bullets/casings from hunters.......
The bottom lead drops could be from the era your looking for.....looks like "camp lead" or drops of lead used in bullet making. So your in the right ballpark........keep after it & a 3 ringer bullet should surface soon.
HH,
Bill

You are right Bill,I faild to mention,or just took it for granted, that they more than likely are from hunters.

I agree with Rick. That bullet is modern based on the grooving withing the ring. The larger round piece of lead very closely resembles a lead sinker from a fishing line/ rig. JMHO. Good luck and I'm sure you gonna dig up something from the CW period soon. I'd bet there's an old coin waiting on you for sure.... lost by a hunter in that same location. CCH

Your bullets are post civil war. We have dug over 300 shotgun hulls in the camp we have been hunting that is in the woods. But we also have been finding 3 ringers and eagle buttons. Don't give up. If your research says you are in a camp then dig every target. Those brass shells sound just like a bullet or button and I get excited every time that tone sings.
