Relic mode, IAR query

Relic works well on my sites, usually set up with IAR at 4, notch 00-01, this is to take care of some background noise from some of the rocks that are present.
Now had a bit of a play and decided to drop the IAR and notch down to 0. Imagine my surprise as over the next few yards of searching the machine was very quiet even the threshold was constant. It meant watching the numbers as regards an i.d but was worth the effort. Okay all signals came through as is to be expected. My question is, does notch have a part to play when used with IAR as a 03 signal could not be notched out, even as high as 20?

Interesting observation. Not sure what is going on there Gaz. I've never used notch with IAR. When I used IAR of less than 4, I found it let too much iron through for my liking.

Update
Went back to same site as above today and could not replicate the same test.
Found an 04 target, and this disappeared with a notch of 5.
Ended up with the following settings
Relic program
Notch 00-12
IAR 0
Reactivity 0.5
Threshold 1
Gone were the screaming iron signals.
Very stable.
