relics and artifacts stopping corrosion

dfmike

Well-known member
I found a few good old relics this year but some of them are very heavily corroded with rust pitting the iron underneath and fragmenting it. Is there a way to slow down the rust but preserving the historic value of the piece ? Thanks.

Rust occurs in the presence of water either as liquid or as humidity in the air so keeping it dry will slow it down almost to a stop. If you keep it a box or some other container putting in one of the gel packs that comes with electronics to absorb moisture from the air will help too.

I suggest you pose your question on this forums relic forum. Not being a big relic hunter myself, I don't want to steer you wrong, but know there are some preservatives to keep ones relics from deteriorating further and looking good in display cases. Good luck! HH jim tn

Thanks for the info. Never thought about the silica gel packs. Good idea.
