Reno/Tahoe

I am going to Reno/Tahoe this summer and would like to go find for fun some place to hunt for gold will not have a lot of time at either place but have no idea where to start? Any help? Some one said to hunt the beach in Tahoe more gold on the beach that under some rock in the hill? Any way if anyone has been I have a v3i with 4x6 and a 10 dd coil.

Welcome to the Forum.

Hunting for gold, the beach is probably a good idea. Also, in Reno, a custom after a divorce has been to throw a wedding band into the Truckee River from the Virginia St. bridge. Who knows what you might find in that area? If you will be driving, you might want to search on Google Earth first and locate the ghost-town of Franktown. It's about 21 miles south of Reno and was founded by Mormons in 1852. The prospect of digging a Mormon gold coin could be very rewarding! Best of luck and...

I will fly into Reno and rent a car thanks for the info may look into going to the ghost town have u gone? Do I need to talk to someone so I do not get shot? Thanks just thought it would be different to look around and see if i got a hit on something never know. Thanks again

No Mike, I haven't been there. I passed through Tahoe and Reno years ago on my way to the North Fork of the Middle Fork of the American River to do some gold dredging. It's a beautiful area. The info that I gave you is from my Treasure Hunting Library. There are several other ghost towns in that area and I have leads on buried gold. You said though that you didn't have much time so I cherry picked what I thought were the most interesting ones. If you would like the approximate locations of a few others , I would be happy to oblige...
