Repair of XS 2A PRO

TJPHILLY2

New member
I have a call in to Minelab customer service, waiting for a call back.

But...the ON/OFF/VOLUME switch on my Minelab XS 2A PRO failed. I am sure that this is all that is wrong with the unit.

I've heard that Minelab will not service the XS 2A PRO but in this case, since it's only the switch that's bad, I am hoping they will fix it.

It seems to me that I read about someone other than Minelab doing repairs on Minelab machines on this forum, anyone know if that is the case?

Thanks all,

TJ

TJ,will the Sovereign power up?The volume control on the Sovereign's don't actually control the sound level, its a gain control, hits harder on targets with the volume knob maxed. Good Luck Ron

No...on mine, the knob furthest to the left turns the unit on is the volume control
that makes the unit sound off higher or lower. That switch and potentiometer is broken
hence the unit will not power up.

I would think minelab can repair this. I gotta think this pot is the same on all the sov units. Ron is right, its not a volume control as far as your threshold or headphones are concerned, but on targets its definetly a volume control.

I would think it would be an easy fix for Minelab as well.

But I have heard that Minelab will not fix units more than ten years old...does anyone know
if that is the case?

Regards to all, TJ

Hello all,

Finally got in touch with Minelab Repair today. It took them over 24 hours to get back to me.

I am sending it in to them for repair - assuming it's just a bad potentiometer it will be OK.

I was under the impression that they would not repair it all but that is not the case.

There are some models that they term "limited serviceability" due to their age. The older Sovereigns like the XS, the XS 2, and the XS 2A Pro fall into this category.

Basically, any repairs Minelab can do on these models for which they have parts are OK but they don't typically have replacement circuit boards for them.

In the event your unit cannot be repaired because of unavailability of parts, Minelab does offer a discount on a new unit - at least they did to me, so remember to ask for a discount on a new unit if your old unit is not working and cannot be repaired due to its age.

Thanks for all the input.

Happy Hunting all!
