replacement for 10 inch coil, or fix it??

Hello all, just bought a used explorer se. It came with an 8" and 10" coil. I can use the 8" with some success, but the 10" sounds like I am swinging it over a treasure trove. I can't get the 10" to settle down no matter what I do. I can hold it up in the air in the middle of a field and it still goes crazy. I took off the coil cover and cleaned it up and that did not help. So I am sure the coil is bad. So now what? I will use the larger coil for farm fields. Should I send it in to see if it can be fixed or should I buy a new coil. If I should buy a new coil, what big coil is a good relic hunter in farm fields?
I appreciate any help and I enjoy looking at every ones finds and all the great advice on this forum. You guys are great!

I've had a couple go. It means that one of the wires has come loose. If you are handy you can check the connector. Often happens there.

When you say some success on the 8".... does that mean its noisy as well? Might check the cable connection that goes to the box. Take it off and reconnect it. Also, try REBOOTING to the factory settings.... like most computers it needs to be done on occassion. Do you know someone who has an SE with a 10" coil that you hunt with? swap it and see if its you or the coil. If its bad... get yourself the pro coil or a SEF.

No way I would hunt without it. If it EVER goes bad on me...I would be lost:stars:...BUT I guarantee I would buy another one REAL FAST.

It beats the pro coil for me hands down in EVERYTHING here in my soil. Depth...stability...separation...ability to handle iron...ease of swing.

The only thing the pro coil beats my SEF coil in is the weight. It is much lighter than the SEF.

I think I will deal with a few extra ounces:)

Just my opinion though...and we all have our favorites:clapping:

Thanks everyone for your input. I just ordered the 10x12 sef coil. I am so excited to get it I have already checked the mailbox twice and it has only been a hour since i ordered it:lol:
