replacement knee

Hi guys, I'm wanting to come back to metal detecting , I had knee replacement surgery and the doctor says that I will never be able to kneel on the replacement knee. So I got upset and sold my safari. Now I want to find a way to kneel and not have weight on that knee, has anybody heard of a way of overcoming this problem and knee pads don't work. I'm sure that I'm not the only one with this problem. Any help would be great.
Thanks Vince

Hang in there. I may not have the answer but I will tell you what I do. I have my original knee but it may be replaced in the future. I cannot kneel on it so I go down on one knee (like I'm being knighted) and do my work, Then I have to use my hands on the ground to get both feet under me, and then I squat to a standing position. Maybe you could use one of those small shovel diggers that are a bit longer, (lesche makes some), but that would probably limit places you could hunt. Best of luck. Borrow a machine and see what you are capable of.

A friend of mine uses a light weight small plastic stool.. it's about 12" high and has 4 legs molded in the design.Sets on it, and digs on the side where target is. leg out in front of the seat..

He does great with this technique it weighs nothing almost..........

I had my left knee replaced 6 years ago. When I recover a target I kneel on my right knee and just have my left knee bent. I can, with good padded knee pads, gingerly kneel on my left knee but choose not to.

I can kneel on my right knee the way dirtangler said but I would like to come up with some way to put weight on my left lower leg (shin just below the knee) so that my knee wouldn't make contact with the ground. If I come up with something I'll share it with you all, cause I know that I'm not the only one with this problem, and the other ideas will work in the mean time cause I'm going to go ahead and get the new safari. Thanks Vince

Hey, Vince, I rarely kneel at all..just sort of do a wide legged stoop like how a giraffe takes a drink of water, or how a football player takes a 3 pt stance at the line.....knees both slightly bent, forearms resting just above your knees...a very stable and comfortable way to dig since theres no heavy pressure on any given part of your body...seems its all dispersed evenly throughout your main frame...feet are about 3' apart, very powerful dig since you are using the weight of your upper body instead of arm muscles...upper body is almost at a 90 degree angle to the ground, so you are actually bending at your ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders but not too much of any one...you sort of go into a squat, then rock your upper body forward...your head is close enough to the ground that you can lay down your detector as you dig without removing your headphones..I'm 5'10" 53 yrs old, and it works for me..over 10,000 coins last year, not all of them were dug, but probably at least half, and lord knows what all else, probably 13,000 targets last year alone with no ill effects at all..I hope you figure out something, Vince, this detecting is the best physical therapy there is! try it out right now in your house! See how close you can get your face to the carpet just by doing this..very comfortable heh?
