Replacement pin pointer is acting up now....

Towards the end of the detecting season last year I started having problems with my Propointer chirping uncontrollably when not near a target. I sent it into Garret and they sent me a replacement. GOOD People to deal with:clapping:
I am now experiencing the same problems with my replacement. I dig a target and locate it with the Propointer and when I lay the Propointer on the ground off to the side of the hole it just starts chirping at a steady pace. I know that there is nothing near it to set it off, but I actually have to shut it off and back on to use in it in the hole to retrieve my target.
Don't get me wrong here, as I like this pin pointer and feel it is the best I have used in the past, but is anyone else having problems like this?
I did by a new battery (Energizer) that is dated as good til 2014, so it is a fresh one.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Your problem is solved with a phone call:garrett:

Yeah I know, thought I would ask around and see if anyone besides myself is having the problem.

Calling Garret next

Yes, mine has always done that intermittently. I just do what you said and I turn it off then back on and it works fine. I know I should call Garrett and send mine in but the thought of going without it for a couple of weeks keeps me from doing it. Some times mine will vibrate even when it's turned off and I have to take the battery out of it.

Called Garret and they said send it back. Good thing I have a back up, but it isn't a Pro-Pointer:heh:

I know the folks there will take good care of me as well as anyone else.

I called Garrett and she said to send it in. Mine went in the mail this afternoon.:thumbdown:Now I gotta go without one till I get mine back as I don't have a back up!:garrett:Ya gotta love that customer service though!

It's best to turn it off when you lay it down as it will pick up everything including any mineralization in the ground, your detector, your tools, and any metal on you.

I've encounter similar problems with my Pro pointer, but mine has always gone back to normal after a short period of time. This isn't the first time this has happened to you with your current Pro- pointer, is it?? Remember: It's not uncommon for machines to have periodic problems and then bounce right back.

Right! the ticking never bothered me, I just picked it up and turned off then back on and it always worked great. Mine however developed another problem where it would just start vibrating on it's own without it even being turned on. I would have to take the battery out of it to stop it. I think somthing inside would short or is making contact or someting strange. It's only happened 4 times but I thought I should send it in for repair before the warranty runs out. I love it none the less and I'm bummed that I gotta go without it for a couple of weeks though.:garrett:

Yeah if it does that then it's time it goes Bye Bye to Garland. It's got a short somewhere.

That's what I figured, I just hope my warranty covers it!:garrett:
