As most Excal users know, the S-rod Minelab provides is the first thing to go once you get your detector . . at least if you want to be a lot more comfortable using it. The straight-shafts have been out for years (and many wondered why the Excal II's stayed with the S-rod design) and it makes it feel like a totally different detector.
One supplier of rods is Anderson Detector Shafts out of Canada and I had the chance to look over his products at the Myrtle Beach show earlier this year. Well, one of my 3 Excal's still has an S-handle so when I needed to go with a new shaft as my buddy and I fought over who got it when we went out, I checked in with them and found out they are looking at a line of carbon fiber rods in addition to the metal rods.
Long story short, got one of the new carbon fiber rods and got a chance to use it both for diving and wading over the past week . . . solid design, no flexing and a bit lighter than the metal rods . . . . . .
Here's a few photos of the carbon fiber rod and the metal rod I have on my other Excal's
