Reports from the field on the Quattro

What is up? How can we have a new machine out there and no reports yet. Tex has one but has not given it the once over at the DIV hunt. Still waiting his post. Anyone else got one yet?

Jerry,
They are getting out there . . . . might be that the people that bought them are too busy digging "goodies" to spend time at the computer.
I've been out close to 50 hours in the past few weeks with it and I can't complain with what I've brought home.

I've got it and it's great - so easy to use .... only been out once though - beach detecting in the UK..... very stable and goes deep. I got a 1948 George VI penny from around 10". I was amazed, having not had a machine that has found or was capable of finding anything that deep. My only complaints would be the weight and the pinpointing doesn't seem as accurate as my MXT. That said I like seeing the depth of the target on the main screen without having to push any buttons! Overall it seems to be a very impressive machine which is just incredibly simple to use. I wanted a machine that I could use straight from the box and that is exactly what Minelab have produced,

You should be able to nearly double that depth with an Explorer. I suspect that about 16"-18" is the practical limit on an old penny with an Explorer. However at this depth you can forget about depth meters, crosshairs and tone ID.
With the latest generation of metal detectors I have found that the depth that I have to dig has become the limiting factor rather than the depth that the machine will detect.
Obviously it's still early days with the Quattro so it may be some while before it's full potential is realised.
Regards
Fred

Anyone tried a PI on the beach for depth?
I know the Sovereign rocks in these type of conditions, but on open sand, you simply WILL NOT BEAT a PI, unless you know something I don't. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">
