Well I've been doing some research on some old loyalist sites here in Ontario. I've been trying to locate an old church which dates back to 1784. After 3 failed attempts on previous days...I finally located it today. Unfortunately by the time my buddy and I located the site, it was almost dark. However, we both managed some nice finds.
Here is my take:
-10 flat buttons...a couple tombac, only one with a design, only a couple without loops. Two of them are huge as you can see in the pic. I didn't know flat buttons got this big!!
-1 "success to the commerce of upper and lower canada" token. It's in beautiful shape and I think they date to 1814 or so!?
-1 1773 george III half penny token
-1 worn coin, uknown
-1 thimble
-1 whatsit
-1 pistol ball
-3 fishscales (found while looking for the loyalist site) 1907, 1910, 1920
-1 1933 penny
My buddy found a 1782 hibernia token, and a military button...1700's I am sure...I haven't seen it cleaned up, but I could make out "The Kings ________ Regiment" with a rose or some sort of flower in the center. Still had some gold gilt on it.
It was a beautiful fall day, and I couldn't have asked for better results! Sites of this age are so much more exciting than hunting for 1900's large cents. I think this winter I will focus all of my time on researching loyalist and military sites.
Thanks for looking!
