I'll let you know of a great possible source of research info on old sites to hunt. Indiana (not sure of other states) Counties, or most of them anyway have Cemetery Commissions, whose job it is to locate and if possible restore old abandoned or forgotten cemeteries. These people have access to a wealth of info IE old plat maps, knowledge of past history and such. Obviously in many cases "old cemetery" means "old church" as well.
