That darn sunlight sure seems to still be in the running for the best lighting it appears..
I was happy with the pic but realized from all the scratches I had better quit throwing my finds in a cup instead of carefully putting them up... I did the optimizer thing too but it is still a might bit big.. Sorry about that..
Good hunting... Guvner..
Ps. The camera is an Olympus D600L and what they call a B macro lens with an adapter going from 43 to 55mm I believe...

Looks like you're getting the hang of it now!
Now, wasn't that worth the long UPS time?

That shot's a beaut! Excellent choice of background, too.
Had never noticed the stripes on Liberty's dress before... going to have to take a closer look at the US coins in my collection!

Thanks Louis, but the background is my Ducane BBQ pit... But since you liked it I will use it all the time. It will be darker next time though as a buddy just got me a brand new, bigger, better and with rotisserie at a fabulous price... (He works for local distributor..) I sure hope the new one doesn't screw up my coin shots... I will have to take it back if it does...
Good Shooting... Guvner..

Good results. I found that with the consumer model digitals and close-ups it's best to get the object near a window so that you have side lighting that will the relief of objects. It keeps them from looking flatand have more dimension. Did you have to cover the flash when you did that shot?

I think that one was pure sunlight... I was literally outside... I did get an opaque cover that blocks the flash from nailing the shiny spots. It clips into the lens and seems to work very nicely. About half of my photo's are still unacceptable for one reason or another. Not sure if it is operator error or not. It may be just a very unforgiving camera for the tough shots and I will need to adjust. I could take one great shot after another with my old manual 35mm SRT100 Minolta but with auto focus it seems to be another animal. Next camera will have manual and auto for sure.
Any advice is welcomed... Guvner..

When I worked retail I used to sell those. I won't say what year's those were. heheeeeeeeeeeeee

But seriously, the colour and pattern of the background help show off the coins. The colour is important because it is close to... I think it's a number 5 grey card. The result is that the camera metering system is not fooled into under or over exposing the subject(s). The colours on that image are right on. I'll have to try Rick's suggestion and shoot some of mine outside (if we ever see the sun up here again...)

...shadow that seemed to come off the green patina of the coin. Maybe I'm blind but I sure I see some blue in that shadow...
Good hunting... Guvner..

I see some too. Could be sky light reflected off of the silver coin? Neat effect if it is!!!

$100 with a couple lenses and carrying case about 17 years ago. The older guy had himself a brand new Canon the grandkids bought him. I bet it is broke now and this thing is still working great...
Camera guy I bring it to for cleaning and calibration always asks me if I'm ready to sell it yet... Must need it for his antique collection.
Good hunting... Guvner..
