RI and beaches?

Got some kids moving to RI for a few months. I'm curious if there are any real beaches in RI. I've kind of assumed the beaches there would be all rock, but no real idea if that is true or not.
Can anyone post information/photos of beaches in the Portsmouth area of RI?
Thanks in advance for sharing the information.

I live 20 minutes from RI and let me tell you New England has alot of great beaches. My detector partner and I detect RI and MA with great success. Portsmith is only a few miutes from the city of Newport. Both 1st and 2nd beach in Newport would be an easy trip, just dont forget to print out your directions before hand, and HH.

with access in the winter very easy. Parking can be pricey in the summer. I hunt the Watch Hill area quite often....

Appreciate the information.
