Road Trip Part 3

Doug, Diane and I went back once again to the old park that has produced some excellent finds recently. The day was hot and long with just a few finds of note. Doug once again upheld our honor by making the good finds today. It started out with a Shield nickel that appears to be 1883 date, then a bit later he got a 1903 Indian Head, Diane and I were finding clad and some interesting

nice shield nickel! "shield penny"...lol never heard that one. your videos are always nice to watch, good luck to you folks.

Never heard of the shield penny? It's the newest design of the 1 cent coin. We've had Indians, Wheatbacks, Memorials, several versions of Lincolns life, and now the newest form, the Shield.

they are very shiny and very zincy
already finding them and so far they are still in good shape
can't say that for the zincolns

Give the Shield Cent time. They are the same chemical composition as the zincoln so expect the same corrosive results. Most of the zincolns are so corroded that I don't even bother to clean them--they go right to the trash can.

I have a different take on it
I bring all my damaged coins to the bank at the end of the detecting season
There is some law about the treasury and damaged money must be accepted back to the treasury
Maybe if enough of us do this, the treasury may be "embarrassed" enough that the zinc coins will have to be reconsidered
or maybe we need to expose the treasury and the zinc coins, because the treasury that issued the zincs should be ashamed!
We are the greatest country in the world and our coinage is "crap"!
