Rock and gems clubs around Boise.

I'm new to the Boise ID area and interested in learning where and what to look for in the way of rocks and gems. Anyone know of any groups or clubs? Been a metal detectorist for many years but never really been exposed to an area like the Gem State.

I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a R&G club in Boise. Check with the Chamber of Commerce, or any rock shop. IMHO, calling Idaho the "gem" state was the height of optimism....LOL

Start looking here. http://www.amfed.org/ I see there is Gem club in Boise. You have to understand that there are rock and mineral clubs and there are gem clubs. while there can be overlap in the club one discipline is generally prominent over the other. Meaning, a pure rock and mineral club is looking for specimens of minerals while a gem club is more interested in looking for gems. Good luck, it is a fantastic hobby either way.
