Royal =Golden (almost) modification

If it weren't for the Royal Sabre that I got from a guy several years ago, I would have to buy a Golden umax after you guys talked about it so much. Simply turn off the notch and switch to disc. Now, turn the Left discriminate level control all the way down-you will basically be hunting in bottlecap disc. Now rotate the Right disc level until the NORMAL pulltabs break up(not the ones that register as nickels). My setting on mine had the control knob pointer at the "c" in nickels. Now, nickels will give a low tone, coins a high tone, and the tab level will have two tones that mix to sound. You can't switch back to notch with a small adjustment to the right knob-but it's about as close to the Golden as you can get-except that you now only have three tones to worry about. You will still find some trash like broken tabs, large foil in the nickel area,etc., just like on other detectors. Enjoy if you have one.

Sounds very close DUAL MODE Discrimination - with tone select. That is sweeeeeeeet.

One of the greatest detectors of all times was the Fisher 1266X. It had dual mode disc, which could be switched back and forth with a trigger... just like the Tejon. Honestly, the Tejon is a souped up 1266X, with GB added.
The Garrett CX series of a decade back had similar features and were another great line up. Still are, although they are digital now.

Add the tones of the Golden or Royal to the Tejon and I'd get in line to buy one.

Elsewhere I have read that the Tejon was almost a direct copy of the 1270 circuitry????

It is sweet! I didn't state one thing right, though. You CAN switch back to notch, but you have to rotate the notch level knob on the right back to the factory setting, similar to the Golden,only a little slower. Sorry for the messup.
