safari and xterra 705

I was wondering if anyone can give any comparisons between a safari and the xterra 705, I am definitely going to purchase one or the other and thought i would ask if anyone experienced with these detectors could offer their reasons as to why they prefer one over the other. I am sure they are both great detectors, just thought i would ask for some input before i make my final decision. i have owned other name brands but never a minelab, but will soon. thanks for any reply in advance.

I have never used the Xterra, but by all accounts it is a good machine. I chose the Safari because of the greater # of frequencies that it uses; I'm sold on the VBS tech. The Safari also come with a better coil imo (11"DD vs 9" round); I'll nevver hunt again with a round coil- I LOVE the DDs. Cant rem the Xterra, but I also like the ability to use 8 AA rechargables.

Hello, I own a Quattro and XTerrea 70 which are about the same as the Safari and Xterra 705. Performance wise the Safari is going to be deeper than the 705 on silver coins, While the 705 will be better on small gold items. I only have the 5X10 DD high frequency coil and the 9 inch concentric middle frequency coil for my XTerra. From what I have heard that the low frequency 3 hz concentriic coil is fairly deep and hot on silver coins, but I have not personally used one. You cannot get the 3 khz coil in a DD, which I prefer to hunt with a DD then a concentric. I believe that the my XTerra likes iron better then my Quattro. I definatly can determine if an target is a piece of iron or not with my Quattro better then with my XTerra. If you buy a Safari you will have a better selection of coils then you would with the XTerra. You can check this out here http://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,1055627 HH

Thank you for your replies, very much appreciated.

Also, you probably want to remember that this is the Safari/Quatro forum. The Xterra forum may have a different opinion (but they would be Wrong, of course ;) )

I have both the Safari and XT-70 and both are going to run fairly close to the same price if you were buy an extra coil or two for the 705. As far as finds go I've done equally well with each one as long as I've run the 10.5" DD MF coil on the XT-70. In a nutshell I've found the Safari to be the deeper of the two and it also seems to handles bad ground slightly better, while the XT-70 is better at I.D-ing coin denominations and can be swung a little faster than the Safari. Overall I'd definitely rate the Safari the better of the two if going with stock coils on each. Although when using a 10.5" DD MF coil on the XT-70, it gets my vote because of how well it tells the difference between coins of different denominations. In any regard you won't go wrong using either one.

Thank you everyone for your replies, i am going to order the safari on monday, i was leaning toward the safari, but really liked the x-705, your replies helped me and i thank you. kschae4, thank you for the info about the Quattro MP, but i try to buy new if my budget allows, again thank you all.

Keep us posted on how your learning curve goes on your Safari and CONGRATS on getting a new machine. That always makes a good day!
