Safari detector SEF coils

Hi all, Dose anyone use the 10x12 SEF coil on a Safari ? I just got a new coil and can,t get it to fit in the short bottom rod. After i got it in and put the top on to get it to go on the control box i have to pull out about 5" of coil at the bottom to get it to fit. First i though it didn,t fit the Minelabs but it match up to the control box just like the FBS coils. I have a 8x6" SEF coil coming and hope it don,t do the same. Thanks Flintstone

I have an 8 x 6 SEF coil for my Minelab. Before attaching the coil to the detector, you need to stretch the coiled part a bit. then turn the lower rod upside down so the connector part comes out of the top of the lower shaft. Next attach the upper rod and lower it almost all the way down over the lower shaft. Next attach the connector to the detector, and slide the upper rod back up until the whole thing is the correct length for you. Then snap it into place. It's very easy although I made my task even easier by purchasing a separate lower rod (very expensive) for my SEF coil.

By the way, I use the 8 x 6 SEF coil 99% of the time. It makes the detector so much lighter, and I still get excellent depth with that coil. So far in the short time I have been out this year in Wisconsin, I have dug three silver dimes, and three Indian Head Cents. Yesterday, I dug a very deep Wheat cent that I measured was down 9 Inches. I don't need to dig any deeper than that, and I can swing (slowly) my Safari all day with that 8 x 6 little coin on it. Actually, a few years back, all the detectors came standard with an 8 inch coil, so my SEF coil is really not a "little" coil at all. I hunt a lot in fairly trashy parks and school yards and the larger coils are constantly beeping with 2-3 different items under the large coils. To make a long story short, I get excellent separation, excellent pinpointing and excellent depth with my 8 x 6 SEF coil. It's all I need.

Hi Cos, I have the 6x8 for my MXT and it is very good. i have one coming for the Safari. I have the 10x12 SEF and used it for a hr. today it is heavy and to big for parks. It will go deep, i got a vdi 40 lock on and deep. i was up to my elbow and still good sound and nothing. I gave up, i don,t like to go that deep in parks, i don,t want kicked out. I will save the 10x12 for open places. Thanks for the info. Flintstone
