Nothing exciting to post. 3 chunks of lead, a couple of nice spoon ends. A neat looking emblem..(off a car ?) It looks like a Greek god Mercury and 1 1962 penny. Plus a far amount of milk bottle tops and scrap My buddy found about the same but no coin. We went to a second old farm but the farmer must have been also running a garbage dump. Lots of broken crocks bottles, and institutional dishes. It was a rough place for detecting. I also found out how much tougher it is to detected in a wooded area with high weeds, Thorn bushes and the like. Any tips on wooded area detecting? We checked out a couple other places for another day. I might hit one tomorrow morning for a little bit. The detector worked fine and I'm getting to know it a little. More practice is needed, but practicing is fun!

Thanks Gene I'll try that next time out. I got out a bit on Sunday morning. I was working around an old barn foundation, Didn't find any coins but I did find this medal. I looks like a service ribbon to me.

Mike that is just as good a find as most coins IMO. That is a very nice relic. Is there any writing on the back? how big is it compared to a quarter? How deep was it? You've got something to research there, and that's the best part of MD'ing.

Very nice find indeed !! It looks as though it has some good age to it. Detecting is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get. But it sure can be sweet !!

On the back it says genuine bronze. It was only about 3 inches deep. It is also 1.5 inches in Dia. I'm going to try back at the same spot again this weekend.

Believe it or not, the oldest coin I ever found was only an inch deep. I was using my xlt, and when I pinpointed it, I stuck my rounded off steak knife in the center hole of the coil and literally hit the coin with the knife. It was a beautiful 1787 New Jersey copper, in excellent condition. I'll have to post a picture of it. I preserved the patina by soaking it in virgin olive oil. Ron :detecting:
