safari is easy to use....my review

spent last weekend at a friends house who is a minelab dealer, and he let me use the minelab safari demo model he had. I used it for a full days hunt and I was IMPRESSED how easy it is to use!

Mike gave me a two minutes lesson and set me loose on a older home across the street from him, within an hour there I had clad, a token and four wheats. The yard was pretty trashy and the safari just picked those coins right out, some areas were so trashy I could not even pinpoint, but I was able to "X" over the coin by listening to the high tone and dig the coin no problem

I think the safari was a well balanced machine, easy to use, has good depth capablities and I would feel good about recommending it to anyone looking for a nice machine. Currently I use the xterra 70 but would not feel bad about upgrading someday

Nice review ! As a safari owner I must say it is a very good machine. The ease of use just keeps getting better with every outting. Thanks for a positive review of the Safari. Ron :detecting:

After using the SE for a couple of weeks, I beleive the Safari is just as deep. Its a great machine for sure.

where I hunted at I did not get any real deep signals, but what amazed me was how it was able to pick those wheats out along all that iron

Did you use the pinpoint function much? If so, how did work for you? I just got a Safari and went to the beach near Atlantic City NJ to get a feel for the machine. So far I like it it, but I must say that the pinpoint on my X-Terra 50 and my Excalibur II seem to be a bit more accurate in the sand.

I used the pinpoint and I thought it was real accurate, of course I am more confident with the x-70 but I use it daily

I find pinpointing with the Safari to be very accurate anywhere. It may get a little difficult in high trash areas.

Bare in mind the pattern for a double D coil is a 6 inch long 1 1/2 inch or so wide swath vertical or parallel to the shaft. So when you comb with the safari comb left to right and right to left and locate your item with the tone. Then turn and comb the area 90 degree's from your sound. This will allow you easily center the detected object. Mark your spot with a golf tee and dig your plug and lay it over on it's back, take your pinpointer and probe the plug dirt and then the hole, deepen as necessary with your Lesch and use the probe to find that object... If you gone deep enough with no joy, clear the hole and scan it again using the right angle method to recenter.

Works everytime for me except if it's a long object....

I had been a Garrett user for most of my short detecting career and I fouind a Minelab Safari so different I had a heck of a time getting use to all the different tones it puts out. Then I began to find stuff. Then I could almost call what it was before digging it. Then I had a heart problem and had to lay off for several weeks. I'm back now and itching to get out and relearn what I had forgotten. I think it will come to me much quicker this time. Onus

Forgot to add.....I bought a new smaller coil for my Safari for really trashy areas and it seems to pick out the better signals easier than the factory original. I haven't got to use it much due to my health thing, but I'm looking forward to working a couple of old torn down house sites with lots of trash and hopefully som silver too_Onus

:pulltab::minelab:Well i have a quattro pretty similir to the safari. And in trashy areas it does pretty well.I also removed the stock coil and put on the minelab 8inch fbs coil and its great makes machine lighter more sensitive and good finds. I also have an xterra 305 wich is great. The difference is the xterra is lighter a bit quicker swing and a less battries. In trashy areas the quattro or safari seem to seperate signals a tad better and seem to be a little more quite than the xterras. All 3 are great machines
