Safari On The Way...............:bouncy:

I talked to my dealer today and have a new one and a 8" coil on the way. Traded a near new "camo" detector for it. I have had Xterras in the past and the Xterra 70 with the 10.5 DD 7.5kHz was hard to beat for relic hunting. The only thing I'm a little intimiditated with is the FBS and different tones that the Safari has. I tried the 99 tones on the Xterra once and that was enough for me. I've been told to stick with the Safari and be patient and learn the tones. I was a musician at on time so maybe the different pitches will be easy. Anyways, I'm going over this forum from front to back, reading everything I can. I admit, I've had a few machines in the last 35 years since the BFO Bounty Hunter I that I started this hobby with and looking forward to trying this one out......MO

If I can read between the lines about the cammo, I did the same thing. I got a new Excalibur. I am going to get that new land detector. I am thinking Safari. I like the idea of being able to detect in any kind of ground. Post back when you take it for a test drive. I would like your thoughts on the tones. A real newbie's thoughts. How different is it? I was told I would eventually get used to the noise on the cammo detector. I never did. Also the weight. I really would like a light detector. Or at least one that isn't going to kick my Butt in the sun. I'm getting too old to swing a heavy model. At least the cammo job was easy on the shoulder. A shame it didn't work out. I have been watching videos with people using the Safari. It looks simple on the controls. I like that.

All I can Say is I think the Minelab's are a lot better in minerized ground. I have dug buttons at 10-12 inches with square nails in the same hole with the Xterra 70 that I had. Hope the Safari has the same results :detecting:

MO,

I think that you'll like the Safari as a relic machine. Like we talked about in PM the tones can be daunting but with practice you can learn all the subtleties and end up getting more info about your target than most machines can provide. I no longer dig foil or poptops because they are so consistant on the machine that you know immediately what you have found. In relic fields I have found the following ID numbers

-7 to -10: nails and small iron
-1 to -6: larger iron, worth digging if you want frags and gun tools etc. (especially -1 to -3)
9 to 10: foil
12: cuff buttons
18 to 20: coat and overcoat buttons
32 to 34: .577/.58 bullets

I haven't heard a plate/buckle yet but I'm still looking

Congrats on getting the Safari. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by it. Very easy to use and a deep seeker.

WTG!!! Mine should be here tomorrow. Did you get the $50 voucher and the backpack full of goodies? I also went ahead and got the 8" coil also...MO

Congrats! I got one on it's way too!!

sky1/morelic,

Take your time and learn the song of the machine and you will both have fun.

I went back to a "hunted out" field here in Gettysburg this weekend and got two "New Model" sharps bullets and a harness/saddle buckle in about two hours. All three targets were deeper than 8 inches and read perfectly.

BTW: I left an ID number out of my list:

15 to 16: Aluminum pop tops

Thanks!
Yes, I did get the coupon and love the backpack, cap, flashlight, canteen and all the other goodies as well.

I too was thinking of that 8" coil. I am just now starting to get better at pinpointing with the 11" coil. Let me know how that 8" coil works for you. I was thinking on ordering the Sunray X1 cause my pinpointer is not too good.

Although I am starting to recognize some of the tones, from what I'm told in order to learn I need to dig everything above iron for now.

I watch a lot of videos on youtube, most just show their finds but occasionally some show the signal/tone/depth and how they dig the plug and all, I find that very helpful expecially when they are using a minelab.
