Safari :surprised:

I finally took the time to try out a Safari. WOW !!!:cheekkiss: The recovery speed on this detector is very fast. In the Coin Program, you can hear virtually everything that is under the coil unless it is nulled out. Go to the Coin and Jewelry Program and now you can hear what was nulling in the Coin Program... Changing over to AM or Relic mode changes the audio from conductive to ferrous.... I opted to hunt in either the Coin or Coin and Jewelry because of the high pitches of the conductive sounds....In fact, a couple of the coins came out from between lower sounding targets but you could hear the high pitched squeak in between the bad signals. I hunted awhile in the "Park from Hades" (60 years old and a zillion pulltabs) and was able to pull out the oldest coin that I have ever found there in 33 years....a 1891 IH. Hit silver too..a 1961 Rosie.... The cartridges and the Infantry button came from an area where a Civil War era house once stood... while still in the C&J mode, I got a faint :wave:squeak, enough to investigate and at about 9" of hard packed dirt came the infantry button..
If you want a turn on and go machine that can go back and find targets that you missed with other detectors, this is the detector for you .. Minelab definitely has another winner... Best to all and HH, Richard

Nice finds Richard! But....I better keep my Ex2 for a little while long .......I made a promise and this time I'm sticking to it !!
Wait! That was on another forum! What else can you tell us about the Safari Rich?

Other than the very fast signal recovery and the new PRO coil, everything else is pretty much the same.... Those 2 things make it a totally different and better detector... Richard

BTW, Don't use the cheap:nono: 8 for a dollar batteries, they do well to last an hour.

Thanks for your insight Richard. Just got a new Safari myself, my first FBS machine, and I think it will take a while to learn the language.
Nice finds.

Barry

I came for a Garretts GTI 2500 to a Safari and the tones are so different I am struggling. Onus

Yeah and I had done better in Biology I would have become a Doctor. The Safari is one fine metal detector. No frills, just finds.

I think that you will do better in Coin or Coin and Jewelry starting out because of the conductive sounds....IMHO they're easier to learn... (relic is same as C&J except with ferrous audio) Try using the machine on the easier places to hunt starting out...playgrounds, newer parks... You are going to get high pitched sounds on most coins except the nickels and just take one and run it under the coil a few time and listen to the audio and notice too where the ID number is...around 9 I think... Give it awhile, the Safari is a super machine...thanks Richard

The tones are very easy to learn... Too, with an SEF coil, the Safari will hit a good target within a half of an inch of a bad target (comparable size bad target) That is pretty good to null and then hit the good target that close...I think that with the stock coil, you might even be able to get closer...
What I like, is finding good targets inbetween bad one, i.e., pulltab, coin, pulltab.... great detector...Thanks RIchard

Onus, I am a Long-time MINELAB Excal/Sov-Gt User, but have been studying up on MINELAB'S FBS Technology!! I am halfway thru Andy Sabish's Book MASTERING THE QUATTRO, and I must say that I think his book is SUPERBLY WRITTEN!! It is very easy to understand, and thoroughly explains All the Settings
and Controls of the MINELAB QUATTRO (which are the same as on the SAFARI)!! I am studying up on FBS Technology, because I am seriously considering upgrading my dirt detecting detector to a FBS Detector and I'm pretty much focused in on a MINELAB SAFARI!! I believe Richard at Backwoods Detector Sales has that book (he's a GREAT Dealer to DO BUSINESS WITH), and I would recommend anyone new to an QUATTRO-SAFARI or any EXPLORER User purchase one of Andy Sabish's Books on the EXPLORER
Series of detectors!! They make it alot easier to understand how this technology WORKS and its different modes!! GREAT JOB, ANDY!! Best of luck, Onus!
