Safari volume gain.

I was wondering if the Safari has adjustable volume gain like the Explorer/E-trac where deeper coins sound softer? How is it in trash and iron does it null a lot? Thanks.

Nope no volume gain, It nulls just as much as my Explorer does in trash, depending how much disc you use. The one thing I like it is that it can ID nickles better then the Explorer in high trash situation.

Can you still tell the depth of the coins by the audio being softer with the stock gain? Thanks.

Safari is calibrated for coin-sized targets. I find that both silver and clad quarters at 12" seem to ring loud and clear as they would at half that depth. The depth gauge feature, 0-12" is another tool on the control pad to assist with judging approximate depth.

I have to agree, I don't think there is much difference in the sound between a deep coin and a shallow coin,
