Sand Shark P.I.machine.

Hello All,
I wonder if anyone here uses the above Tesoro P.I.machine?.
I recently picked up a very tidy one to use on the
wet sand on our local welsh beaches in the U.K.
These P.I.machines have not been advertised in our
Country, just a few in used ads.
I find it great to be able to take out in our VERY wet weather conditions without wrapping up in plastic.
Have used it twice on wet sand,i find it very simple
to use, very light and easy to pinpoint.
It appears to have less depth than other P.I.m/cs?.
Have run it at best battery life/depth gain setting
and understand that you can turn up gain to max.
with reduced battery life.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to optimise
my wet beach finds with this detector please?.
Nobody on Tesoro Forum seems to use one so hope
someone here can give me a few pointers.

I have a SandShark, and you're right, it has a little less depth than some other PI detectors. Turning up the pulse width will help a little bit, but shorteneing the sample delay helps a lot on gold. The only way to do this, is to replace the crytal with a faster one. I did this on my machine, and gained a couple of inches on small gold rings. See my previous post for more info.
This ain't recommended for a first-time solderer, the crystal is surface-mount and hard as heck to remove. Plus, whatever warranty the detector might have, will be void.

Carl,
Many thanks for the reply i thought i was the only sand shark user (hi) by the lack of response.
I must say that i found plenty of coinage on a weeks
hols down in Cornwall a few months ago and held my own against the locals using vlf and other P.I. on
the wet sand areas.
I found that its easy to identify nails, gives a classic double hit on each way swing, also any beer
bottle caps over an inch deep tend to give a more
muffled signal and of course large items are easy to trace by size.
But mainly i can hunt in the pouring rain if i wish!.
Have tested on really small gold chains etc, and seems to find o.k.
*For info i also use an Elite with a 14"Detech head
great on beach BUT not waterproof.
Am off to Swansea tomorrow where a few beaches are
giving up george third silver and the odd roman bronze coin. so we will see whats about.
Thanks again but i will use max pulse width as i am
pretty useless at any soldering etc.
I also run another hobby i am a radio ham and hold the call MW5VZW ex GW6VZW.
So if there are any other hams/detectorists out there
best wishes HH & GDX.
CU SOON CARL.
Regards Paul-Welsh Lad.

Please send me an e-mail with your correct address, Dave. * * *

Hi paul
I was very intrested to hear you mention that the beaches round me are producing Roman coins. I have been searching the area extensively over the last three years and not had a sniff of a Roman. Incidently only one george silver have fallen to my machine in that time. Have the people you metioned found them with PI machines or VLF like mine.
I am also thinking of buying a 14" detech coil, whats your opinion on them.

Paul,
I use the Sandshark here in central Florida beaches and so far works good. I set the volume to max, pulse width to max, adjust "F" to max, i hunt in normal mode and i set the treshold to a little hum. I'm using the 10 1/2" coil. So far picking up coins and my share of pulltabs and bottle caps . So far no gold . I'm going to buy a second detector so I can take my oldest son with me and looking at the DetectorPro HH PI. Also my callsign is K4PFH and you can find me in ECHOLINK.

Hi Ricardo nice to meet u,
I worked the 6mtr band for 10 yrs as GW6VZW
And more recently HF bands 10-12-15-17-20mtrs as
MW5VZW. From a very poor location to get across the
pond,many mountains blocking the way.
I am temp.QRT owing to EMC problems.
As to detecting i mainly use the Minelab Elite plus
Detech 14"head on beaches and inland great results in
both types of area.
I recently got the Sand Shark at a good price and
although not as deep as some P.I.M/Cs it enables
me to hunt in the wet without having to cover with
plastic!! I use the standard 8"head and find plenty of coins but like you no gold with the Tesoro yet
but plenty with the elite.
Thanks for checking in.
