Saturday and Sunday's Finds. Coins.

Luck of the Draw is pretty much it Mirage. I had Rick(ND) check 2 of the signals I came across and one was a piece of junk while the other was one of the 1896 Indian Heads. That coin was giving me a double signal which I thought was odd. The other signal was about 6" away from where the coin was actually dug and after I dug the coin, the other signal was gone. Rick said he would have dug the Indian Head but there was definetly something close to it to give the signal like it did. Rick was using his Sovereign GT this time. The piece of Junk that I found was a Copper Pipe Fixture of some sort and what was odd was Rick said it was nothing but Iron but my Explorer XS told me different and I dug it anyways. Rick was kinda stumped since the Sovereign's should have seen that item. We were also working in grass that was about 12"-18" high also and I know we lost a good 6" of depth or better. I have yet to see what the writing is on the Printing Block but I will check it out. Thanks again and HH.

I hope that it doesn't turn cold and freeze up until they get a chance of trying that SE out at least once. I would like to see Denny's wife find an old coin with it before Snow flies. Good Luck and HH Denny and also to your wife.

Again congrats James, we at least here in North Florida don't have the Winter Weather Worries as bad as some further North, but we still get wicked cold days (for a Southern person - if you can't wear a T-Shirt it's just cooooollld!). So we will be hunting throughout the winter as if it was any other day and trying our best to match you all (well Savage, Sunzabeach and I WILL TRY anyways!). Today alone, I found the oldest coin (daily running bet with Savage the "Silver King" - so I go the Dollar - woo-hoo) but Sunzabeach did manage to find an 18kt Gold Ring, so both Savage and I got whacked, but hey, only had enough time for a few hours anyway being Thanksgiving and all (for that we congratulated Sunzabeach with the "B" Word - and he replied with a smile that was way too big, alright we'll get it next time....).

The beach slows down during the winter months, and going to the beach during the winter months (especially after storms - woo-hoo what a change it makes - my best beach finds were during the winter months) - or in the water - and finding the old buried treasures that shifts with the tides and sand movements is for the most part ruined now since Ivan and Denny went through - and not because of the Hurricanes - but because they have "Re-Nourished" the Beach (laid down and added more Sand that was washed away) and the beach is now about 150 feet further out into the Gulf than it was, and thus the "old beach" is about 8 to 10 feet under your coil - so all the "old" treasures are buried way-way too deep - so the annual Winter Beach hunting when no one is there that still allows you to find "older" and sometimes great finds will take many-many years to "rebuild".

Oh well, the ground gets cold - but not hard, so we still have many places to hunt - and I will try a few new Beach like areas to try and match what you guys find - sheeessshh they are nice finds! Cheap Jewelry and Rings do not really measure up high for the braggin' rights with us three as old coins & relics do - but you guys really would wipe Savage and me most days and "steal" the dollar......

I've owned a few of those tin Red Cross lapel pins that I got at country schools in the 1940's. Don't remember exactly why we got them but a good guess it had something to do with cadging at least a dime out of the old folks for a Red Cross fund raiser during WW II.

Rick(ND) even said the same thing. He said that if you gave a certain amount of pocket change, that you recieved the pin and then everyone who saw you with it on would know that you helped out with the effort. Thanks again and you are correct on the Pin. Good Luck and HH.

Sounds like you 3 have a lot of fun on your outings. I was out on Thanksgiving also and I found 5 Silver Coins again. A 1914 Barber Dime, 1920,1940 Mercury Dime, and 1946-d,1952-d Roosevelt Dime. I also found a Good For Token For 5c In Trade. And another 17 Wheat Pennies also. Not a bad days worth of finds. I couldn't even imagine what the before and after pics of the Beach would look like. 8'-10' of new sand is unbelievable. It sure must be something to see when a Hurricane goes thru and digs the beaches down. Anyways, Sounds like excellent hunting weather for you guys and I hope you find my share of the Silver this winter to make up for me not being able to make it out till Spring and I hope you find that Gold Ring next time. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:
