If you have a safe area where a night hunt won't end with a call to 911, you definitely should try it at least once. I really like it. Peaceful, cool, quiet. I hit it for much too long last night and I'm paying the price for yesterday's 8 total hours of swinging. My back this time. Anyhow, I had a strong desire to end my silver coin drought so I went to one of my best silver producing sites around 9:30 pm. I know at least one other hunter who goes there and he has done a good job getting most of the good stuff. I find a silver coin there about every other hunt. My first dig was a wheat cent then nothing but clad. First hour and a half in the oldest part of the site led to 6 more modern coins. I moved to a newer area and got the rest.

I was approached once by some volunteer firemen around midnight. They thought I was vandalizing the place and were going to run me off. I asked them to keep an eye on me and they said they would but I only went on for another half hour.

That star with the "1" in the middle is pretty cool. I was amazed I found it after digging it. It's pretty small.

The knife pictured is very sharp. It was stuck into the ground blade side down. If it was oriented any other way I might have lost a finger. I got very lucky with that target. I quit hunting shortly after that.

I may head out tonight after the race at Michigan.

The wind dies down hear in the evening and the mosquitoes will drive you off.Even soaked in Off(pun intended). If we get a windy evening/night I'll try it.Bill

Looks like a successful night hunt .

Actually I was soaked in Off last night. Man, I hate the smell of that stuff. I also find it helpful to turn off my headlamp when not it use. The bugs cooperated so I got out for 3 hours. It's just different to hunt in the dark.
