Saturday. Nothing but clad.

I was determined to hunt until I found a ring or an old coin. Never happened before I got worn out, but I did get a lot of clad coins. See photo. Is that a lot of dimes, or what?

Chris

Seems like there are a lot fewer posts on this forum. Is everybody moving over to the new forum? Personally, I can only manage one forum at a time.

It takes me a couple of weeks to gather that much clad. I think I need to find some new spots.

Hi Cwilk,

That was a great hunt, I wish I was that good. Do you use the coin popping technique? Is that how you get get so many coins? Let me know thanks!

I pop the shallow ones and dig a flap for the deeper coins. I use a GTI 2500 and it pinpoints very accurately. I am rarely off more than about an inch unless the coin is right on the surface. I had a custodian at one of the schools watch me dig about 10 coins and he was shocked how little I disturbed the grass. There are exceptions but luckily he didn't witness any.

The way to get a lot of coins is to:

1 Hunt at a site that has a lot of coins. Duh.
2. Practice a lot. The time it takes you to recover a coin is less time for you to find something else.

You will get better. If you keep a log, like I do, you can see how much. My notebook has a great big smiley face the first time I ever found 5 bucks in clad in one day. Then I hit 10 bucks and called it a day that will never be equalled. I have at least 10 hunts this year with more clad than that. Plus rings and jewelry which is what I am really after and the clad is merely a sweet, sweet bonus.

I have to travel pretty far now to find fresh new sites and therefore I try to hunt a little longer. The sites from yesterday invloved about 45 total miles of driving but I did fit in my monthly trip to Wal-Mart as well.

Good Luck.

Chris

45 miles was worth it by the amount of clad you found..

Me too. I used to try to cover several forums but lucky to hit a couple now. There's a glitch in the new forum and I haven't been able to get on. I can read the posts but can't reply to any or post anything. Been trying to iron it out but no luck yet.

thats a lot of coins there chris good job. whats this new forum your talking about???

That sure is a lot of coins Chris.
I don't think that folks are bailing out. I've noticed that over the last 9 months, there has been a substantial increase in posts on this forum. I frequent the Explorer forum as well and this forum used to level peg with that one for quite some time. A few months ago, it surpassed it for posts and is now very close to becoming the most popular forum here! Only the beach forum has more posts, but even that one is about to be eclipsed by this one. I'm only counting forums that are talking about actually detecting here though and not the classifieds or the Christian forum.

Oldrivers new forum that he has on the site with his other ventures. I can't join a lot of forums because I would be posting and reading too much. I'm going to stick here as long as all my favorite posters remain.

Chris

A lot of regular posters are now posting over at the new forum and not so much here is what I noticed doing a quick scan.

Chris

It is a lot of coins. I sure wish 10 percent of them were dollar or two dollar coins like you guys use. What I ended up with after that hunt is a smummer cold. I hope today is the last of it. Felt really rotten yesterday which was a rainy day anyhow. Today my GTI 2500 keeps beeping and asking me when we're going out.
