hunted saturday at a couple different houses, got some clad, some jewelry, odd and ends. Thing that is totally nuts is the ring is MARKED Sterling on the inside but you can clearly see it is peeling off, can you believe they "faked" a silver ring....lol
got a cool button too, it says on it Excelsior, if that means anything to anyone?

that may be where the ring was resized....I have some like that....is that the only place that is affected? If so, I think the ring is sterling. Please post if that is the only area to be affected

if it was resized they should have used silver solder - but maybe is wasn't available and they uses regular dolder. Neat finds none the less - the button sure looks like an eagle button from the Civil War era. steve in so az

Nice finds, Graw! You need to check out that ring some more.....But it looks like a Merlite Ring....they aren't silver or gold but sure do look like it when new with their different stones in them! I found what I thought was a gold, diamond ring but turned out to be one of them! People used to sell them as their own business or you could order from their catalog! I hope it is silver for it has a pretty red stone! :)

God Bless!

must be plated with sterling. The button is old. Can you give a close up and I will look it up for you. Excelsior is on NY buttons.
