Saturday's Finds!

The day was a long one and for some reason it really slowed down on finds as far as Silver is concerned. I met Rick and Tim at the spot that I have been doing so well at and it sure was a tough outing. Rick I believe found a Wheatie and a small coin type object that had a date on it of 1852 and on the back it said California Gold 1/2 with a bear on the bottom of it. It was smaller than a Half-Dime. The only bad thing is that it was all green and it wasn't Gold. It must be a replica. I think he would have done better but he insisted on using the Technetics T-2 and he was digging more pulltabs than anything. I wish you could have done better Rick but that 1852 type coin was a real nice find and I wish I would have found it. As for Tim, he found I believe 2 Merc's, 1 Barber Dime, a Soap Token, and a bunch of Wheats. Wish it would have worked out the way I planned it but the finds were tough to find this time. I ended up getting 7 more Silver today. They are 1 Washington Quarter dated 1943, 2 Barber Dimes dated 1901 and 1914, 2 Mercury Dimes dated 1939 and 1942-d, and 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946 and 1954-d. I also found another 16 Wheaties and the dates are 1910,1919-s,1923,1925,1927,1927-d,1929-d,(2)1935-d,1937-d,1944-d,(4)1945-d, and 1946-d. Still not a bad outing for me and better luck next time Rick and Tim on finds and maybe we can hunt somewhere else some other time. It sure was fun to see who was finding what. Till next time! the ground moisture??? I used to log all my finds and the March-Jun months had lots of coins.....then not much until fall. Seems like there is something to my theory. I look at my coin album and I am sure I will have a drought for about two months now. Course I better get out and detect. You've done very well James. I'd like you to come to my area in Montana and see what you could find.

We just had gotten some rain and the dirt was moist for about 3 inches and I am not sure if the ground being wet is playing a factor in it or what but I thought that the Explorer would do better in wet ground. I did notice that I was getting a bit more unstability yesterday than normal for some reason also. Thanks for the offer to "GO WEST" to Montana. What town do you live in? It is unlikely I would be able to make it out your way but you never know! If I did somehow make it out that way I would like to be able to contact you and do some detecting at some of your old sites. Thanks again FrontierWest for the offer and Good Luck and HH.
 
As I've said in the past when I see your name I know it's good. Nice pile of loot again James. Looking at the well worn 14 Barber is must have been lost sometime about the 1940's to have been worn that much or the person really wanted to look at it a lot before losing it. Nice pile again and I don't think your buddies are to disappointed. Congratulations James, way to go and HH
 
Haha, I love how these kinds of finds are considered 'slowing down' for you! You need to head out here to Indiana to know what slowing down is all about!

Great haul bud! Keep it up! Your posts always amaze me and keep me motivated!
 
Sure wish I could travel around to other States but maybe when I retire in the next 25-30 years. By then it will really be tough to find coins unless they bring out a detector that will go another 6". Just keep Plugging away and you will eventually get your share of oldies. Good Luck and HH.
 
I just can't believe my luck lately. I have been returning to old spots that I already have hunted and the finds just keep comin'. I hope my momentum keeps going like this for the rest of the season and can't wait to post then of my totals for the year. Have a great 4th of July Eddie and Good Luck and HH Buddy!
 
I just wish Rick(ND) would have had better luck since he doesn't find much old stuff since he is limited with time. Monday I am planning on taking him with to the School Yard I did good at this Sunday and I hope his luck changes. And I wish the best on finds for you on your next outing and Good Luck and HH.
 
You and your family have a wonderful 4th of July also. Maybe I will get lucky tomorrow and have something good to post for a change. 4:00 am comes mighty early...........:) HH.

I feel like I get my fair share of oldies... but the silver around here has been all scooped up over the past 30+ years of others detecting this area HARD! I hunt with a few of the old timers and their stories just make me sick. One of the ladies that used to hunt had a 100 silver dime day at a local school back in the 80s.... Now that just makes me sick when silver is so few and far between around here most of the time!

One of your hunting buddies that is doing well today said back in the 80s that he gave up as everything that is public has been hunted out, just private yards are left. I told him I was starting to find my older and better finds, Now here in the 2000 he is doing very good with some very nice finds.
The secret as you and Tim is finding out is doing the research to find those older area where people were at back in the late 1800 and early 1900s that are forgotten about, knowing your detectors and have the patience to work some of these areas.
Talking on a 100 silver day, Tim had a 43 silver day a couple of weeks ago with 14 of them being barber dimes and from I was able to find out this was at a well known and worked area that many may know about, but being he did the research he seen that the one end had a old race track back in 1910 that was a bit overgrown in weed is where most of this was found.
For me I don't get out as much as I used to and when I do I don't have the time to drive far as I work 7 days a week, but do try to go to most of my local areas like most do and try to pick up the odd signals that most will not dig in hopes of finding the mask coins.
Like many have said before the secret is research, research and more research as having the best detector wont find it if you don't know it well and the coil goes over it. I have went over some of the signals James and Tims dig and these are not you normal signals most will dig as you have to go slow and be listening close to those slight signals that lets them know they have a good one.
I think most would be shocked at how much is still within 30 miles of them that is just waiting to be found.

It is too bad I couldn't travel more or I would do a bit of research on sites from other detectorist's towns or close by that post on here and just see if there is any good spots left for them. But that is easier said than done so I leave it up to all that post on here to do the research because there are virgin sites in your areas that you are overlooking. Hope to see you out in Sheldon today Rick and hopefully I will have a few keepers to show you when you get there.
