Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, on the 18", the manufacture says up to 24". The best that I got was around 15" depending on soil conditions, could go deeper. The beach I get a little bit more in depth, again depends on cond.Only thing with the 18 u have to set recovery to fast & slow down to creeper gear , covering a lot of ground if area has alot of iron. Where I hunt in N.Y. land & beach I use iron mask, don't miss to much.Hopes this helps. Good Hunting & Good Luck.
