Save your Toggle Switches from sudden death

Sven

Well-known member
I am sure you notice your toggle switches getting dirt and other crud inside the lever area..................
Its not nice when they fail in the field.......................
So here's my tip of the week........rubber boot seals.

Yes, you have heard of them before along with the high price for just one boot.
But, you can get them cheap, real cheap on the e site directly from China. 20/$15
You may even find another seller who has them for less.
Only one problem, your toggle switch threads may not be the same as the China boot nut.
For the most part no problem.
Take them apart and just use the boot. If your toggle has a long or flat lever snip just a bit of the tip off.
Then pull the boot over the toggle and over the toggle nut.
Bingo, your done.

Boot Specifications:
Inner diameter: 5.5mm
Inner length: 15mm
Material: rubber and plastic

Thanks for the tip Sven.

Thanks, that's a great tip.

 Thanks Sven

I really like this idea, think ill have to do it to the vaquero. But instead of cutting the boot and making a trap for the dirt how about making the switch shorter with a dremel tool. I don't think it would void the warranty do to the fact that you're protecting the detector, just my 2 tabs.

Some toggle switched are used frequently, such as the all metal/disc toggle.
Short levered switches are a bit tougher to flip overall, more so when covered with a boot and if your wearing gloves.
Just my opinion.

PS, if you Dremel them short, watch out for the heat created by the cutting disc that will travel down the metal toggle lever to any of its plastic parts.

That's a great idea, thanks!
